Futuristic Kitchen: Ekokook Water and Waste Management System by Faltazi

The Ekokook futuristic kitchen by Faltazi is a complete water and waste management system that brings an innovative shift to the storage and processing of waste and liquid in your kitchen. Through an intricate, eco-friendly system you can reduce your ecological footprint and enhance the earth’s environment. This kitchen effectively turns each waste into a new resource and each drop of water into reusable liquid.

Ekokook has three micro-plant systems that help to reduce the environmental footprint: microplant 1 used for solid wastes, microplant 2 used for liquid wastes and microplant 3 used for organic wastes. The kitchen has machines that use a small steel ball to break glass for the reduction of waste, a shredder to shred paper then turn it into briquettes, and an endless screw to crush cans and water bottles. A built-in double sink with a water reservoir and two pitchers that collect kitchen water helps you to recycle clean water by using it to water your flowers and plants. A filter also comes with the kitchen, allowing you to remove unclean particles.

The water device can save up to 15 litres a day. Finally, the drum-shaped earthworm composter, which is a part of microplant 3, utilizes earth worms to break down organic wastes such as left-over’s, fruit and vegetable peelings, and scrapings. The futuristic Ekokook system will truly bring a healthy and appealing change to your kitchen as well as the community and world around you.

Futuristic Kitchens

Designed by Pininfarina, the same firm that designs Ferraris, this kitchen's showstoppers are the high-gloss metallic-finish cabinets and the "acropolis," an aviation-inspired workspace made from recycled aircraft aluminum and stainless steel. The acropolis features a large Foster sink, a four-burner electric Foster cooktop, bottle and knife holders, and plenty of storage and cooking space. A control panel in the acropolis also controls the audio and visual components for the entire house. Good things come in twos: refrigerators, dishwashers, freezer cabinets and ovens.

This space carries a very futuristic vibe! With an array of colored LED lights and clean lines with varying textures, including rift cut white oak cabinets, Black Galaxy Countertop, Stainless Steel and backlit glass.

The Liberty Project is an innovative approach towards modular kitchen and space management. The setup integrates and aligns a refrigerator, cooking area, prep area, microwave, washing area, washing machine, water recycling system, air conditioning and exhaust. The best part of the concept is that the working platform height can be adjusted for wheelchair bound folks. Moreover the platform configuration can be changed to suit individual needs.

Luxury kitchens

There is no one style to qualify a kitchen as a luxury kitchen, but you will notice that most of our featured kitchens are large. Additional common features of luxury kitchens include:
  • Islands (often large)
  • Granite counter tops
  • Custom kitchen cabinets that extend to the ceiling
  • Hard wood or tile flooring
  • Custom lighting
  • Tile back-splashes
  • Stainless steel appliances
  • Eat-in section at the island or large peninsula
  • Glass-faced cupboards
  • In a few cases, you’ll see examples of full double-sided refrigerators and two ovens.
Color schemes vary, but most are white or natural wood. A few use extensive stainless steel, but this isn’t common.
As for layout, this too varies from a traditional 3-sided kitchen, to long and wide galley kitchens with islands to open-concept kitchens.

Award-Winning Kitchens from KBIS 2013

I'm still giddy about all the great design ideas and product developments I saw at the 2013 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in New Orleans in April. The design awards for kitchens and baths were a highlight. You could call them the Oscars for kitchen and bath design.

On awards night I got to meet the designers and talk with them about the inspirations and challenges behind their winning projects. Here are my favorite kitchen contenders in each category.

Porcelain floors and aluminum swivel stools make the space cool and modern; the beach house is a rental and designed for the easy navigation of a large number of guests.
